Semiotics Analysis9/16/2020 Given the visual elements of the piece, with Robert Pattinson’s disheveled look and this seemingly being a self-portrait taken in a mirror, it gives it a very personal and intimate feeling. As if we are being allowed to see a side of someone that is truly honest. As well, the way that some of the typography appears to be handwritten, this contributes more to the fact that the article will be personal and honest. Also, the way that the typography is off to the sides of the page while his portrait is front and center, shows the magazine’s emphasis on this being a personal story rather than a broad topic. The lexicon is very straight forward, and the teasers are descriptive, but in particular with the use of the word “dispatch” it almost makes it seem as if this article will be coming from a someone isolated or marooned. However, unlike many articles this isn’t offering you a lifestyle, it is almost holding a mirror to you and showing that others are living the same lifestyle as you during these times, as a way to show comfort through solidarity. The magazine is also persuading the audience to accept that there are others struggling as they are during these times, and that you are not alone by showing how even celebrities are coping with your same problems. Finally, the audience of the magazine would be creative young adults and adults who want to see how others are dealing with quarantine effecting their creativity.
