Fargo Compare & Contrast10/20/2020 For my notes I actually didn’t take any notes from the video, nor did I feel the need to re-watch it; so in regard to comparing my notes with the candidate's there is nothing to compare since they took notes, and I didn’t.
For my response I answered it more as a list with sporadic points, however the candidate answered in more of an essay format. They gradually walk through the scene and bring up the various aspects of analysis as they go, however for me I talked about each asset one by one and referenced the same sequences multiple times for different things in different sections. I didn’t mention the lighting and color like the candidate's response, as well I didn’t mention sound as a major thing unlike the candidate. The candidate also references more about the feeling of the scene being bleak and mundane, whereas I did not notice it as playing such a role in the storytelling. The candidate also sees more of this setting up the scene as if it were normal however I saw it more as being suspicious from the start. The candidate goes more into specifics about the effective camera shots in the scene, whereas I more glossed over them and focused on the major plot reasons for things in my analysis. The candidate also draws more attention to the setup of the main character in the scene and some certain details with the wife and the sound of the washing machine, and although this is good detail it with my analysis, I more focused on the major things that matter rather than getting hung up on going deep into one certain detail. Overall, the candidate's response focused more on atmosphere and the feeling the of the scene whereas I more just listed things as I saw them in relation to the major murder of the scene.

INTERTEXTUALITY IN MEDIA9/24/2020 Intertextuality is the references and influences found in one text that derive from another text. In the first picture the intertextuality is that between StarWars and FamilyGuy; FamilyGuy is directly referencing the cover art for The Empire Strikes Back and it is also referring to what occurs in the movie in a parody like way with the title. In the second picture the Simpsons is directly referencing Salvador Dalí's painting "The Persistence of Memory", by recreating the painting but with their own characters. Finally, in the third picture the Simpsons is directly referencing the Beatles album cover "Abbey Road", by recreating the picture but with their own characters in place of the band members.
Semiotics Analysis9/16/2020 Given the visual elements of the piece, with Robert Pattinson’s disheveled look and this seemingly being a self-portrait taken in a mirror, it gives it a very personal and intimate feeling. As if we are being allowed to see a side of someone that is truly honest. As well, the way that some of the typography appears to be handwritten, this contributes more to the fact that the article will be personal and honest. Also, the way that the typography is off to the sides of the page while his portrait is front and center, shows the magazine’s emphasis on this being a personal story rather than a broad topic. The lexicon is very straight forward, and the teasers are descriptive, but in particular with the use of the word “dispatch” it almost makes it seem as if this article will be coming from a someone isolated or marooned. However, unlike many articles this isn’t offering you a lifestyle, it is almost holding a mirror to you and showing that others are living the same lifestyle as you during these times, as a way to show comfort through solidarity. The magazine is also persuading the audience to accept that there are others struggling as they are during these times, and that you are not alone by showing how even celebrities are coping with your same problems. Finally, the audience of the magazine would be creative young adults and adults who want to see how others are dealing with quarantine effecting their creativity.
